Rogue DHCP server is basically a DHCP server on a network which doesn’t come under the system admin control. Rouge DHCP is basically the network device such as modem or even a router is connected to a modem or router connected to the network by a user so as to get away with the network attacks such as if some one is accessing in the middle of the network. As soon as the clients connect to the network, both of them that is rogue as well as the legal DHCP server will be in a position to offer the IP addresses and also the default gateway, DNS servers, Wins server and others. So, if the information which is provided by the rogue DHCP server differs from the real one then the clients which are accepting the IP address from it may sometime experience the network access problems such as issues in the access speed, inability to connect to the hosts either because of the incorrect IP network or the gateway.
If a rogue DHCP server is set to provide as the default gateway, an IP address of a machine needs to be controlled by a user who is misbehaving and also can sense the traffic which is sent by the clients to other networks and also who is violating network security policies. In a nutshell a rogue DHCP server on a network mainly does the work of administrative tool on the network staff which in short manages the whole network as an administrator. The Rogue DHCP server can be stopped by many means with the help of using appropriate signatures, multilayer switches which can be then configured to drop the packets accordingly. Also, now to detect the Rogue DHCP servers, there are many ways, few of them include Rogue detect using Perl and C++, soft perfect network scanner, DHCP Probe, dhcploc.exe and also with the help of DHCP sentry tool the rogue server of the DHCP can be detected.

The whole process of authorization of the DHCP servers is mainly done in the Windows 2000 Server edition where this scheme is used and also authorization is neither used nor needed if the following conditions exist; if DHCP servers run earlier versions of Windows NT such as 3.51 or 4.0 or if the DHCP servers are running other DHCP server softwares.
