DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack is an attempt made by hackers or attackers to limit the functioning of the systems, especially servers, by launching manifold connections, thereby the original users cannot have access to the system resources. In an advanced stage, it is distributed from multiple IP addresses. DDoS attacks are very easy to prevent either by software based firewall or by filtering methods.

Another way to eliminate it automatically is by running a free open source Unix/Linus script by Media Layer called DoS-Deflate. DDoS attackers are taking benefits of internet's package data transfer technology where the data transferred from any source to any destination.. Distributed denial-of-service attacks can paralyze any type of network for days, freezing online services and crippling a company's status. Thus DDoS attacks turns to be a setback for any size business in any industry.. DDoS attacks are said to be expensive cyber crime and the only ones to increase in the coming days.
The Internet is an unsafe place, with DDoS attacks rising as the bludgeon of choice for cyber hackers and international cyber terrorists and is adding up, with ever-more-powerful tools in a hacker's store. Nowadays, new viruses and worms take clutch every fortnight so organizations should be prepared to fend off this ever-growing security threat. Some of the precautions are taken from company's servers to defend themselves from the data sent from contaminated PCs across the Internet. There are several approaches which can help to defend against a DDoS attack.

Never forget to use a Firewall. Hard firewall helps though good fire walls are damn costly. APF and BFD firewalls are good for brute force detection. If more than one machine is connected on the same LAN, use the LAN private IP addresses to communicate between the machines. Try having minimum of two machines so as tot escape single point failure while you are running multi homed hosting. Using obscure ports is suggested to dodge ping- flood attacks on the machine. Latest security patches can be installed to prevent DDoS attacks.
